The Association for Craft Producers (ACP), Nepal is a not for profit, fair trade organization providing design, management, marketing, financial and technical support to low-income Nepalese craft producers. By giving guidance in blending traditional craft with modern design and technology that suits to current market trends, the organization is helping them in gaining continuous access to the global market.
Founded in 1984 with just 38 producers, today about 1200 artisans are working under the association, of which 90% are women. The association is providing them ‘work base-training’ and creating income generating programs that directly benefit low income groups, especially women. These programs include benefits such as - Foresight Funds, Girl Child Education Allowance, Medical Allowance, Work Incentive and Performance Rewards, Producers' Alliance, Producers and Management Consultative Committee, and Producers Saving Program.
Nestled at the foot of the Himalayas, the association is taking deliberate steps to preserve the environment and working towards waste water treatment and rainwater harvesting systems. They are encouraging their artisans to use recycled paper, soft wood, water-based pigments for printing and avoiding many other toxic chemicals in their production.
Besides protecting the environment, they are using locally available resources such as felt. wool, & bamboo and are preserving Nepal’s ancient art forms.
